In The Case Of My Demise

The story of a young man, who has given up on life.

While writing his suicide letter he realizes that he shouldn’t kill himself before….

The story starts in a lonely room, in a crappy apartment in New York City where the main character is

seated at his desk writing his suicide letter, smoking cigarettes, crying and eating cold pizza.

Why live is the question of this story and while writing his “goodbye letter” the main character finds

the will to live long enough so he can do what he always dreamed of…. “Speak his mind”.

A typical introvert, belittled by society with little confidence, the main character is pushed in a corner

where he can’t get out of… ultimate failure.

The main character, Joe, is a failing student, flunking out of college.

The story starts with him writing his suicide letter and a flashback takes him through the most recent

incidents that made him suicidal, the rejection of his surroundings.

On the day that Joe hears that he is flunking out of college, his boss fires him from his pizza delivery

job and he catches his girlfriend cheating with his best friend, a black guy named Reggie.

The story starts with the words being typed on a computer screen, “In the case of my demise” and

Joe sitting behind his computer crying….

Next to him on the desk are pictures, and the first flashback starts with him looking at a picture of

him and his 2 best friends.

After writing the first sentence and looking at the picture the flashback starts with….

“earlier that day”

1. Earlier that day

Joe goes to see his teacher, who briefly informs him of his inadequate scoring and he is told that he is

flunking out. Which means, Joe is getting kicked out of college.

He tries calling his girlfriend and she doesn’t pick up, he calls his friend Reggie and he doesn’t pick up

either. He goes straight to the pizza place where he works and he gets fired on the spot, whatever the

reason is.

He goes home, he opens the door and he sees clothes on the ground, noises coming out of his

bedroom. His bestfriend is fucking his girlfriend, in his own bed. It’s a tragedy….

This goes to show….. They don’t even care.

Uneducated, unemployed and heartbroken.

2. The Suicide Letter

The scene is back in the present moment, Joe writing his suicide letter, crying and eating cold pizza,

smoking cigarettes and coughing.

“In the case of my demise,

I am sorry….”

This only hints suicide, but it’s never going to happen, in fact there will not be another sentence after

the first “I am sorry”

Everything is narrated, like a Christmas story.

This is not a drama, it’s a story with a happy ending.

The only thing he wrote down, he takes a handful of pills and chugs it down with a bottle of whiskey.

He passes out, the world is spinning around him, the room is upside down, he is actually dying and

then he hears the voice of God.

“It is not your time yet, I believe in you”

A miracle was about to happen, he pukes and he passes out again.

3. The dream

IS THIS HEAVEN, FILLED WITH GOOD MEMORIES OF THE PAST OR IS THIS HELL, A PLACE OF PUNISHMENT?

ANGELS ALL AROUND, IS THIS A DREAM, OR AM I DEAD?

It is here where the main character finds the will to live, new inspiration, a good feel.

While he is passed out, rolling around in his own puke, he dreams of the place of beyond.

A place nobody entered alive, the house of God!

An angel approaches him and takes his hand, walks around with him and gives him a kiss.

She runs away, where did she go?

A deep voice speaks to him (Anthony Hopkins):

“This is it Joe, this is heaven, DO YOU BELONG HERE?

I bet you never would have believed it, if you did not see it.

That is how people are, they only believe it, when they see it, mostly.

Do you belong here? What did you leave the world?”

A real question, do you belong here? Joe stumbles in his thoughts, yes? Or no?

He doesn’t even know himself. Should he answer…. Maybe.

But it doesn’t even matter.

A split second goes by and the scene changes, imagine how hell would look like, like backstage at the

Willy Wonka factory, but darker, hell would look like an USSR factory, sparks flying.

The same deep voice again:

“Or do you belong here, tell me Joe, do you really want to know where you belong?

Do you really want to give up on life?

Are you ready for the truth?”

Joe is waking up almost, he did not die, he brushed death only.

And had seen the truth, both heaven and hell. He had even heard the voice of God.

4. Waking up

Joe wakes up, on the floor, covered in his own puke.

But he feels alive, he feels good about himself, his depression died off.

Joe was born again, baptized in his own saliva, gifted with the truth.

That is the deeper meaning of this story

TO BE BORN AGAIN

But, he had lost everything he had in one day.

Something was different now, there was this voice.

The voice of GOD, it did not go away.

“Do you still want to die?”

No, Joe does not want to die, but there is something missing. A brilliant idea!

Joe washes himself, cleans his room, everything is fast forward.

And he takes his seat behind his desk again, but now, he had died and he was alive again.

Mission accomplished?

5. A brilliant idea

His laptop was still on, on the same page

“In the case of my demise…”

He continues writing, and the voice tells him to write this down

“What will you leave this world”

“In the case of my demise, what will I leave this world?”

And then it hits him, it’s not a question, it’s a to do list.

That is the plot of this story, what do you want to achieve before you die?

In the case of my demise, before I die

- I want to be famous

6. Everything has a price

Nothing in this world is free, to have wishes is not enough. To chase your dreams is one thing, to

achieve your goals is another. We are dependent on our income, that is what makes our engines run.

If you are wealthy you can buy the world, and if you are poor, you are left an outcast. How can one go

from poor to rich in a day? Everything costs money and to earn this money, we need a job.

Our occupation makes our day and our qualifications grants us the freedom to choose. If you are not

fit for the job, somebody who is will fulfill the task.

To fully belong, you must know your place in this world and sometimes it means you need to stand

out to find your place in this world.

It only takes ONE idea to become the next big thing, from inventions and new technologies to movies

and songs, inspiration is key. Inspiration makes innovations and the future.

But we are living in the future and tomorrow will probably be just like today. How can you fly without

wings? It’s easy, it’s called HOLLYWOOD!

So Joe wants to be famous, tired of being unseen and unheard. From the ground up, from almost

dying to stardom. That is the quest in this movie, it’s a Hollywood dream. Its what made America so

great, it’s what pushes people. It’s the essence of freedom and democracy. Its Hollywood, baby!

And then…. Joe sees it on TV.

Searching for a star, the next big thing!

7. Opportunity calls

Joe sees on TV that they are casting for a new movie and everybody can enter.

Joe needs to go to Hollywood to audition for this movie. Joe decides to sell everything he owns. Plus

he had some savings so he can afford a ticket from NYC to LA. And that is what he immediatly does.

He buys a plane ticket and he gets on the airplane.

8. All in

He arrives in LA and goes straight to the movie studios where they are casting for the movie.

He sees a huge line, thousands of people waiting to be a star. Everybody has the same dream, we all

want to be famous, dancing in the spotlights.

But, playing by the rules would mean getting at the back of the line. Waiting on thousands of others

to have their chance first. Would you wait, or would you cheat your way to fame?

It’s the truth though, playing by the rules only gets you so far. I mean, being bad makes people feel

good sometimes, that’s what a badass is all about.

Hours go by and night falls. The security says that they are closing and everybody has got to leave.

In the distant Joe sees a pretty lady lighting a cigarette. He walks towards her and asks her if he can

bum a smoke. She agrees and gives him a cigarette. Then a tear rolls over her face which Joe notices.

She whipes the tear and says: “Thats a happy tear, you know”.

Joe asks how come.

She says, she got casted for the new movie weeks ago and that she was here today to sign some

papers.

Joe introduces himself and so does the lady, her name is Sam, short for Samantha.

She asks him if he needs a ride. He says: “Yes”.

She says: “Come on, my car is over there.”

She says she knows she can trust Joe, because she can see it in his eyes. She reads people eyes.

Since Joe doesn’t know where he is going, being far from home, he tells her he needs to go to a hotel.

She says, hotels are expensive and if he wants she can introduce him to a friend who rents houses to

people, and she can get him a good deal. Just because he is from New York City, Sam loves NYC.

Sam says that she got to work tonight and that she works in a nightclub. Sam invites Joe to come out

tonight and she’ll buy him some rounds. Joe agrees. They drive to the nightclub.

Joe says: “I got 2 tell you something. Yesterday I tried to kill myself.

Sam says, nothing.

She looks at him, she says: “Really? Then the more reason for you to kill that bottle tonight”

9. Party hard

For a guy who tried to commit suicide a day or 2 before, life is looking good for Joe. It must be

because of the babe in his presence or maybe its just Sam and the way she is. They hit it off good,

talking as Sam drives the couple to the nightclub where she works.

She parks the car somewhere in the parking lot and they walk towards the entrance.

Lights are flashing, while there is not yet a line, security is standing outside on guard. Its still early,

around 22.00 o’clock.

Sam greets the black bouncer as he greets her. “Princes Sam, welcome babe. Who is your friend”

Sam responds with: “We just met, but he cool. He is new in town.”

They enter the club. Sam goes behind the bar and gives Joe a bottle of anything good. Probably

whiskey, black label or better.

Joe says: “What is this”

Sam says: “Its for you, tonight is a celebration, HELLO, I’m gonna be in a movie”

“Salute”, they drink their shot.

The next shot the party has started. Adam is sitting in his own booth. Drinking whiskey.

Two girls walks towards his booth, the blonde girl says, “Hey, are you a celebrity?”

Joe laughs and says, “No, not yet”

The blonde girl asks if she can sit with him, because her feet are killing her.

The blonde girls says, “I hate these shoes but I still wear them.”

Samantha walks towards their table, and says, “hey, look at you, making friends. Come I want to

introduce you to my friends.”

10. Best Friends Forever

Samantha introduces Joe to her friends. Its a mix bunch of people, a couple of girls and a guy or two.

They drink, taking shots, as Joe is getting drunk.

Next scene, Joe is talking. Telling them how he puked out the drugs that almost killed him. He is

inspired, he feels enlightend. Like he heard the voice of God. Or maybe just in his dream.

The group takes another shot. As Sam manages to host her party, she also works the night.

The blonde girl who was sitting at his table earlier walks to him and asks him to dance with her.

Joe says, “I can’t dance”

The group says, “Go, have fun, dance with the lady”

Joe dances with the girl. The music plays. They dance the night away and maybe even kiss. He tells

her that he is single, and that he caught his girlfriend with his bestfriend, in his own bed.

The next scene, the girl has her shoes off. And is sitting somewhere next to Joe.

Samantha walks to Joe and says that she is done working. She says the group is going to eat

somewhere. Joe says goodbye to his new friend and then she says, “Wait, give me a call sometime,

we could hang out”.

The group has a surprise for Samantha, there is a limo waiting to pick them up and drive them

around.

As they drive, drink champagne and joke around, they stick their heads out of the windows and the

rooftop ceiling. Laughing and joking around driving around Los Angeles.

They stop to eat somewhere. A friend of Samantha walks towards Joe.

He says: “Yo, Joe if you need a place to crash tonight, I could hook you up”.

Joe agrees and gives Sams friend, an embrace (like hiphop people do).

The limousine drops Joe and his new friend, Jack, at Jacks house. Jack is very rich. He is the manager

of the club where Samantha works and he is a veteran club-head. A real party animal, but he got it

going on. Joe sees a big house, Beverly Hills style, with a swimming pool and everything.

Joe says: “Nice house”

Jack says: “Thanks, I bought it with my first million. What can I tell you? This is Hollywood baby.”

Joe looks at him.

Jack says: “Hey, you want a drink?”

Joe says “No”

But Jack insists.

Jack walks to his minibar and poors the couple a drink. Something out of a cristal bottle.

Jack says: “I wanna know something. What did God sound like?”

Joe says: “Anthony Hopkins”

Jack laughs and drinks his liquor.

11. Good morning

Joe wakes up and walks downstairs. The terras door is open, the wind is blowing the curtains inside

the house. On the (open) kitchen table is a jug of orange juice and some fruit.

Jack walks inside the house and says: “Goodmorning”

Joe says: “Good morning”

Jack says: “So, how you feel, you know, being alive and all”

Joe says: “Well, waking up in this house makes life look a lot better, I can tell you that.”

Jack says: “Yes, I believe so. Joe, I want to help you! I want to give you a job at the club. You can work

your way up, and make a little money. Hey, you can even take acting classes while you here. You

know, live the Hollywood life.”

Joe says: “Acting classes, a job. But I don’t even have a place to live.”

Jack says: “You can stay here for a while, its a big house plus I’m hardly home anyway, you would have

the place mostly to yourself. Just promise me to keep it clean and fresh, you know what I’m saying?”

Joe says: “Yes, sir”

Jack says: “Get dressed, we are gonna out for breakfast.”

12. Bon Appetit

Jack and Joe drive Jack’s Porsche 911 to go eat somewhere. They go to a diner where they eat

pancakes and what not. They drink a “5 dollar shake”. They talk. Jack asks some questions about Joe’s

parents, his girlfriend, school, what he studied and Jack tells Joe something about himself, that he

was dirt broke when he started out and that he has 13 million dollars to his name, tax free.

Jack gets an (whats)app from Samantha. He responds.

Jack says to Joe, “Alright, lets have some fun today.”

Its a Thursday afternoon, around 1 o’clock.

Jack says: “Have you ever been on a yaught?”

Joe says: “No”

Jack says: “Then thats what we are gonna do all day, take the boat out, maybe catch some fish and

watch beautiful women in bikini’s all day. What you say to that?”

Joe laughs.

13. Cause God sent an angel

Jack and Joe drive to the pier where Sam is waiting with a bunch of girls.

Jack is very cool, he is way older then Samantha, but he can hang. He is around 40 years old,

millionaire playboy. He has a girlfriend who is a friend of Sam and she is there as well.

They take the huge, beautiful boat out on the water where they fish, play with water guns, swim and

have fun.

There is a toast where they once again drink to Samantha having got a role in a movie.

14. When night falls

Joe is sitting next to Sam watching the sun go down in the ocean. It looks like the sun is dipping in the

water, like the sun is going under the sea.

Jack walks to the couple and says that they are going back.

15. Work hard, play hard

The boat hits the pier and Sam drives Joe to the club to work for the night. Jack agrees to see the

couple in the club, because he is probably gonna have sex with his girlfriend first.

At the club, Afrojack is playing tonight, and the club is packed. Sam shows Joe around in the club and

gives him a job. Dirty work for low pay, but it is at the finest club in the world.

The ladies are dancing, Joe’s friend from the night before, the blonde girl, is there again with her

friends and she is happy to see Joe.

16. Just be cute

Sam and Joe are done working as the club is closed. Jack and the group including Joe’s girlfriend, the

blonde girl, named Christy, are leaning on the bar having a drink.

Jack says, he is gonna get the car and that Joe should meet him outside in a minute or two.

17. Back at the house

Joe and Jack drive back home where they sit on the couch and smoke some weed.

18. Cronyism

Sam calls Joe on his phone. Sam says she got a surprise for Joe.

Sam has set up a meeting with the director of the movie she is going to be in and that she probably

can get Joe a part in the film. Its not a big part but its real acting.

Sam and Joe meet the director. The director, maybe Quentin Tarantino, says he is gonna do his best

but that he can’t promise him anything. But because of good friends like Sam, everything is possible.

19. Moment for life

Joe gets a call from the director. Joe is congratulated because he just landed himself a part in a movie.

The part pays 10 grand at least, thats if he does a good job.

20. Hollywood, where dreams come to reality

Sam and Joe go to the studio to start shooting the movie. They hang out for days, maybe even weeks.

When the movie is done, Jack is invited to watch the screener. Its a youthful action comedy. Where

Joe plays a couple of minutes of fun acting and Samantha is the star of the flick.

The movie is about a boy and a girl. Samantha is the girl and some dude is the boy. They date in the

movie and the movie is about puppy love. Joe plays a guy who works in a bowling alley.

21. Life goes on

As the movie hits big. Samantha has become a celebrated actrice and does not work at the club

anymore. Joe has taken over most of Samantha’s work at the club, as he continues to date his

girlfriend, Christy.

Joe takes acting classes and even Jack takes acting classes. Joe does not live with Jack anymore but he

moved in with his girlfriend. He continues doing castings until he gets a chance at playing the lead

role. He has an agent. The agent is Matt Leblanc.

The movie ends when Joe gets a call from Matt Leblanc, his agent, congratulating him with scoring

the lead role in the next big movie, titled “Life goes on.
